{"id":329,"date":"2009-02-28T19:28:28","date_gmt":"2009-02-28T23:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/?p=329"},"modified":"2018-12-09T13:32:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-09T17:32:01","slug":"moving-day-feltboard-pieces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/moving-day-feltboard-pieces\/","title":{"rendered":"Moving Day feltboard pieces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before leaving the library today, I set up the story room for Monday morning&#8217;s toddler storytime &#8211; and realized that I actually had my camera with me (for a change).\u00a0 So here is a photo of the feltboard pieces I made for Robert Kalan&#8217;s <em>Moving Day<\/em>, the story of a hermit crab who has outgrown his beloved shell home and wanders the ocean floor searching for a suitable shell home upgrade.\u00a0 Click the image to enlarge:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"img_0240.jpg\" href=\"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/img_0240.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/img_0240.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"img_0240.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love doing this story in feltboard form, because there is so much repetition (&#8220;too big, too small, too long, too short, too smooth, too rough&#8230;&#8221;) and the feltboard pieces really encourage the kids and parents to echo along with the repeated words.\u00a0 It makes for a fun communal storytime experience.<\/p>\n<p>Note that when I took the photo, one shell had hidden itself away behind another, so the &#8220;too plain&#8221; shell is missing from the photo.
