{"id":277,"date":"2008-11-10T08:10:12","date_gmt":"2008-11-10T12:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/?p=277"},"modified":"2008-11-10T11:10:23","modified_gmt":"2008-11-10T15:10:23","slug":"disasterof-sorts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/disasterof-sorts\/","title":{"rendered":"Disaster&#8230;of sorts&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I spent two and a half hours creating felt pieces for Eric Carle&#8217;s <em>The Very Quiet Cricket<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 I went to bed at 10:30 feeling pretty darn proud of myself, because they turned out really well.<\/p>\n<p>But this morning, when I tried to pack up\u00c2\u00a0the felt pieces for travel to the library, I discovered a minor crisis.\u00c2\u00a0 A bit of a disaster.\u00c2\u00a0 Despite having had all night to dry, the glue was still fresh and wet this morning.\u00c2\u00a0 Ever tried to put a delicate felt praying mantis on the board when the glue is still wet?\u00c2\u00a0 Not a pretty sight.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to manage the crisis by putting each felt figure on a fresh rectangle of felt, to help hold it together, and then I used parchment paper as a protective layer between each piece and its neighbor.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The real challenge will come this morning as I try to tell the story while treating each piece as if it&#8217;s about to fall apart.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>*\u00c2\u00a0 (I know that someone is bound to lecture me now on the benefits of a hot glue gun, but there are a lot of reasons why I prefer Elmer&#8217;s white glue to a glue gun.\u00c2\u00a0 And up till now, it&#8217;s never been an issue.\u00c2\u00a0 Sigh.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I spent two and a half hours creating felt pieces for Eric Carle&#8217;s The Very Quiet Cricket.\u00c2\u00a0 I went to bed at 10:30 feeling pretty darn proud of myself, because they turned out really well.
