{"id":180,"date":"2008-02-15T07:16:11","date_gmt":"2008-02-15T11:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/?p=180"},"modified":"2008-02-15T11:29:18","modified_gmt":"2008-02-15T15:29:18","slug":"mall-rats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/mall-rats\/","title":{"rendered":"Mall rats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Saturday, on\u00c2\u00a0a whim after visiting Guitar Center, Jim and I went to the Natick Mall.\u00c2\u00a0 It was the first time there\u00c2\u00a0for both of us, and we were stunned by how beautiful the mall is.<\/p>\n<p>Before I say any more, I need to explain that Jim and I aren&#8217;t mall rats, not by any stretch.\u00c2\u00a0 Not our thing, really.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the Natick Mall &#8211; wow.\u00c2\u00a0 How to describe it?\u00c2\u00a0 Thriving, well-thought out, lovely artistic touches here and there, warm and welcoming.\u00c2\u00a0 My favorite part is the sculptural birch trees that line the newer section, with the mobiles of green leaves cascading down from the ceiling towards the trunks.\u00c2\u00a0 And the blobs of dark wooden flooring that break up the white tile floors, lending an almost yellow-brick-road sensibility to something that could otherwise be cold and antiseptic.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the people watching was supreme.\u00c2\u00a0 Loads of families, not too many angst-ridden teenagers.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know about you, but I don&#8217;t find it much fun to people-watch the gangs of teens who tend to prowl malls.\u00c2\u00a0 Much more amusing to observe marital discord and harmony, good and bad parenting, and cute kids.<\/p>\n<p>As for the shopping &#8211; well, among other things, we came away with two great Crate and Barrel serving bowls that were priced at $5.95 each.\u00c2\u00a0 What could be better?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Saturday, on\u00c2\u00a0a whim after visiting Guitar Center, Jim and I went to the Natick Mall.\u00c2\u00a0 It was the first time there\u00c2\u00a0for both of us, and we were stunned by how beautiful the mall is.
