{"id":104,"date":"2006-09-02T10:43:20","date_gmt":"2006-09-02T14:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/?p=104"},"modified":"2007-09-15T10:45:32","modified_gmt":"2007-09-15T14:45:32","slug":"organization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/abbykingsbury.org\/books\/organization\/","title":{"rendered":"Organization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hectic pace of summer is over, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re gearing up for the move to the new library, and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve gone into organization mode.<\/p>\n<p>Some people tease me a lot about my organization and list-making, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to make it clear that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not obsessed, really, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m just more efficient when I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m organized and have a good list in hand.\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone works differently, and the key is to find your own personal style.\u00c2\u00a0 Back in college, I learned that if I spent fifteen minutes each day making my bed and tidying my room, then I got much more studying done.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s because I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not distracted by mundane things.<\/p>\n<p>So this week at the library I cleaned out the desk in the children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s room.\u00c2\u00a0 Arts and crafts things got put in the arts and crafts closet downstairs, ancient summer reading prizes got put into the boxes in the attic, and a few things got thrown out (nothing of value, I promise you!).\u00c2\u00a0 Now the desk has some empty space in the second drawer, which is just one more step on the road to the new library.\u00c2\u00a0 Less to do when it comes time to pack up and move.<br \/>\nAnd then there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the issue of my lists.\u00c2\u00a0 I read an article in this month\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Real Simple magazine which states the case for getting rid of lists and living your life.\u00c2\u00a0 But it must have written by someone with a different list-writing style than I have, since lists for me are an enabler to life.\u00c2\u00a0 Each day at work I look at my list, rewriting it if necessary, and it helps me to stay focused, prioritize, and to silence the part of my brain that keeps whispering \u00e2\u20ac\u0153don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t forget to do x, y, and z!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 If I write x, y, and z down, then I can focus on what I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m doing at the moment and not worry about forgetting something important.\u00c2\u00a0 Lists help keep me from becoming scattered, especially in a job where there are frequent distractions.<\/p>\n<p>Lists and organization aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t for everyone, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not what matters, is it?\u00c2\u00a0 What matters is that we each find the way we work best.\u00c2\u00a0 And I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m really happy with my newly cleaned desk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The hectic pace of summer is over, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re gearing up for the move to the new library, and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve gone into organization mode.
